ObamaCare comes

Now that the U.S elections turmoil is relaxing, it is time to look ahead. One clear outlook is that "Obama Care", the  Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) (already mentioned in this blog), is here to stay.

Don't know what the PPACA is about ? Wikipedia summarized it nicely:
"PPACA is aimed primarily at decreasing the number of uninsured Americans and reducing the overall costs of health care. It provides a number of mechanisms—including mandates, subsidies, and tax credits—to employers and individuals in order to increase the coverage rate.
Additional reforms are aimed at improving healthcare outcomes and streamlining the delivery of health care.
PPACA requires insurance companies to cover all applicants and offer the same rates regardless of pre-existing conditions or gender."
It is estimated that the public health care budgetary system shall become significantly more economically efficient thanks to this reform, while at the same time, provide a reasonable healthcare coverage to more people in the United States.

Obama Care is a great example why political ideologies still matter. Even in a our modern, bureaucratic, overly-partisan democracies, Change can come. And the citizen's vote makes a difference in the citizen's life. Are we going to see similar changes in other countries around the world? or is the democratic vitality of the U.S unique to that special country, and the democracies of the "old world" shall follow the path of Venezuela, Russia  and Turkey, in becoming authoritarian democracies ?
