ZDNET claimes that AOL and Microsoft's $1.056 Billion Patent Deal, was greatly motivated by the developing mapping services war. This war became more visible a few days ago, when Wikipedia followed others and replaced Google maps with OpenStreetMap in its mobile Apps.
Now all that remains is to see what was Microsoft's motivation ? was this a defensive play, or is Microsoft planning more problems for Google's attempt to make Maps self sufficient ?
