The dark side of the cloud is clearly seen in the gap between European data laws and the U.S Patriot Act

Although it has been clear for quite some time now, that cloud-technology issues are going to make life a lot more interesting for lawyers, Microsoft's choice to speak frankly and admit that EU-based cloud data might be completely accessible to U.S authorities, has made some Europeans very  concerned. The conflict between some European data laws and the U.S.A Patriot Act is not a new issue, but it would appear that the direct reference to the fragility of the myth of secure European clouds (as far as European data is concerned) has the potential to bring a great legal and political storm.
